Painting through the lens of an imperfect world affords me the ability to oscillate between the experiencer’s and observer’s perspectives of various experiences. It also involves direct dialogue and exchange with those that inform and inspire my pieces.
I experimented with abstraction for a while, and quickly evolved to creating through the lens of Conceptualism because I needed a discipline that would be in line with my artistic vision. A vision where my work continues to evolve to address issues of identity, gender inequality, and cultural contradictions in Haiti and the United States through various media, often responding to current political, cultural and social discourses. I typically use a multi-layered process along with mixed media to capture the complexity of these substantive topics that remain points of contention throughout communities nationwide and beyond.
With my work, I hope to create this space that is both intra- and interpersonal, where individuals are engaged in an unfiltered world that compels them to pause and deeply examine the subject matter reflected through my pieces.
